Gardaí seize 11 e-scooters in west Dublin crackdown aided by drone
One man has been charged following the operation, which targeted the illegal use of e-scooters, e-bikes and scramblers.
GARDAÍ SEIZED 11 E-SCOOTERS during a crackdown on the illegal use of the vehicles in west Dublin on Tuesday.
The operation, carried out by the Dublin Crime Response Team with support from local gardaí in Blanchardstown and Finglas, also saw one scrambler and two e-bikes seized.
The day of action was supported by a garda drone, which provided aerial assistance.
Gardaí said the operation targeted the illegal use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes in public spaces, including their alleged use in criminal activity such as drug distribution, money laundering, transporting firearms and drug-related intimidation.
A man was arrested during the operation and has since been charged and bailed to appear before the courts at a later date. A young boy will be dealt with through the Garda Youth Diversion Programme in connection with the vehicle seizures.
“Investigations are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson said.
The operation comes days after the government agreed plans to ban e-scooter use by anyone under 18 and make helmets and high-visibility clothing mandatory from next month.
The proposals also include introducing licensing and registration requirements for e-scooters later this year, with the government saying an outright ban on the vehicles “remains on the table”.
