1. #LAID TO REST: The funeral of Albert Reynolds took place today. The former taoiseach was described as having “the courage to risk everything for peace because he realised nothing worth having was reached from an island of safety”.

2. #STRIKE: Today is the second day of industrial action by SIPTU and NBRU workers at Irish Rail. Intercity, DART and Commuter services are all affected. There are three more strike dates set for September.

3. #TRAGEDY: A Scottish teenager has died in an incident linked to the ice bucket challenge. The 18-year-old drowned to death in a quarry.

4. #GUILTY: A woman has been jailed for 11 years after she admitted killing her 3-year-old son and hiding his body in a suitcase.

5. #LETTER: The journalist who was beheaded by ISIS after two years in captivity, James Foley, wrote a beautiful letter to his family while imprisoned. His family have now released the letter.
