66-year-old woman helps foil raid while waiting for golf lesson

Masked raiders attempted to escape with cashbox from a golf club in England.

A GROUP OF raiders who targeted a golf club in England were foiled by police officers and a 66-year-old lady golfer.

Two masked men threatened a cash in transit employee with a knife at the Perivale Park Golf Club on Monday morning.

As police arrived on the scene, the two men ran from the clubhouse carrying the cash box. The woman had pulled into the car park ahead of a golf lesson when the raiders attempted to escape and she grabbed one of the two men, aged 21.

The other man, 20, attacked a police officer with the cashbox, knocking him unconscious. Police say the officer required 19 stitches to his face and lip and also suffered two broken fingers.

A third man, aged 19, was arrested nearby. All three men have been charged with robbery and appeared in court yesterday.

Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Brian Dillon commended the woman who helped foil the raiders’ escape for having “the courage to assist police”.
