Almost 2,000 near miss incidents and security events at Crumlin

There were 251 complaints and 1,954 near miss/incidents and security events at the hospital between the months of January and September 2010, according to reports.

THERE WERE 1,954 near miss/incidents and security events at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin during the first nine months of last year.

The Medical Independent reports that there were 251 complaints and 1,954 near miss/incidents and security events at the hospital between the months of January and September 2010 – with more than a third of these events being related to security issues. However, the hospital has said that the level of misses/incidents and security events is consistent with rates in Britain.

In June 2011, a Medical Board Committee meeting took place at the hospital, during which Clinical Director Dr Colm Costigan recommended the formation of a medical safety committee – and decided that there would be added support for the medical safety officer covering the three children’s hospitals.
