Poll: Is sitting down during the national anthem an acceptable form of protest?

A debate on this issue is raging in US sports.

IN AMERICAN FOOTBALL right now, a debate is raging about whether it is appropriate to protest during the US national anthem.

NFL player Colin Kaepernick began the debate by sitting down as the national anthem was played in protest against what he says is institutional discrimination against black people and people of colour in the US.

His protest has sparked fierce reactions on both sides as to whether it’s right to protest during the national anthem. Some believe it’s wrong and disrespectful to veterans, while others say he is free to protest as he wishes.

Others believe that while individuals have the right to protest during the anthem, it is a right that should not be exercised.

But what if this was happening in Ireland, how would you feel about someone protesting during Ámhrán na bhFiann?

Today’s poll, Is sitting down during the national anthem an acceptable form of protest?

Poll Results:

No, it's disrespectful. (6043)
Yes, it's fine and valid. (5479)
