GARDAÍ HAVE APPEALED for witnesses to come forward in a bid to trace the perpetrators of a shooting at a Mayo service station which left a 26-year-old man dead.

The shooting happened on the Moneen Road in Castlebar in broad daylight on the afternoon of Wednesday 18 December.

The victim was shot a number of times and was brought to Mayo General Hospital where he died around five hours after the shooting.

A dark coloured estate car was seen leaving the area at the time of the shooting and gardaí are now trying to trace the vehicle. The car is described as a BMW 330 touring car which is graphite grey in colour.

Castlebar gardaí have asked anyone who knows anything about the murder or who may have seen the BMW to contact Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9038200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
