Man who was knocked down by driver who fled the scene has died in hospital

The incident, which happened near Ardfert and Abbeydorney, occurred on Monday at approximately 9pm.

THE MAN FOUND critically injured lying on a roadway after a hit and run in County Kerry has died. 

The incident, which happened near Ardfert and Abbeydorney, occurred on Monday at approximately 9pm. Ardfert is a village north of Tralee. 

Sources have said that gardaí are examining a theory that the man may have had a dispute with a motorist before he was knocked down. 

Gardaí are looking for the driver of a car that struck the man and left the scene. 

It is understood that items have been recovered from the scene that investigators believe were left behind by the motorist. There is also believed to be pieces of a car, which gardaí are looking for in connection with the incident. 

Today gardaí have confirmed that the man, who was in his 30s, died this morning. 

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian which occurred in the Tubrid More area, Ardfert, Co. Kerry on Monday, 2nd March 2026, at approximately 9:20 pm.

The pedestrian, a male in his 30s, was conveyed to University Hospital Kerry with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased this morning, Thursday 5th March 2026.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The driver of the vehicle had left the scene before arrival of Gardaí,” a garda spokesperson said. 

A technical examination of the scene was completed. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who travelled in the Tubrid More, Doon North, Lislosse, Station Road, Ardfert, area between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Monday.

They have requested anyone with camera footage also to come forward.
