Armed gang broke into house as children slept

Two of the five raiders were armed with handguns. There were three children under the age of four in the house in Dundalk at the time.

GARDAÍ IN LOUTH are searching for an armed gang which broke into a house in Dundalk yesterday morning.

Three children under the age of four, two teenagers, a couple in their thirties and a woman in her forties were all in the house at Ath Leathan, Racecourse Road at the time of the raid, which occurred sometime before 8am. Two of them men were armed with handguns.

Gardaí say the occupants of the house awoke to find the masked men in the house. A sum of cash was taken and the men made their escape on foot. It’s believed they had parked a distance away from the house and approached the property on foot.

A 36-year-old man who was in the house at the time was injured and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda for treatment. His injuries are not life threatening.

Gardaí say that potential witnesses may have noticed suspicious activity around the house in the run up to the robbery, and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
