TWO MEN HAVE been arrested near Kilbeggan in Co. Westmeath in connection with an attempted armed robbery in the Dublin suburb of Clonsilla.
They were intercepted by officers from the Traffic Corps and the Regional Support Unit some 40 minutes after the failed raid at a post office on the Clonsilla Road.
The alarm was raised at around 10.20am, after two men armed with a handgun and a hammer entered the post office and threatened staff.
They left the scene empty-handed and sped away on a motorbike. However, their movements were tracked by gardaí, and they were intercepted shortly before 11am on the M6 near Kilbeggan.
Both men are aged in their early 20s. They’ve been taken for questioning to Blanchardstown Garda Station where they’re being held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
