Bungee instructor's poor English 'led to Dutch teen jumping off bridge unsecured'
The instructor is in court to face charges that he caused the teenager’s death.
A 17-YEAR-old Dutch tourist died in a bungee jump from a bridge in northern Spain after her instructor reportedly said “no jump” which the girl thought meant “now jump”, a Spanish court heard.
The girl plummeted 40 metres landing on a dry river bed in the town of Cabezon de la Sal in Cantabria in August 2015.
The teenager had gone camping with a group of young people in the town, which lies about 50 kilometres west of Santander, according to TheLocal.es.
Their bungee jumps were organised by a company specialising in adventure sports.
Judges in the northern Spanish court had described the instructor’s English as macarronico, which translates to “very bad”.
It has been alleged that the rope the teenager was attached to was not connected to the bridge when she jumped.
