Two young men killed and three people injured in overnight single-car collision in Co Mayo

The collision occurred on the L5140 near Ballina at 4.15am this morning.

TWO YOUNG MEN have died following a single-car collision in Ballina, Co Mayo, in the early hours of this morning.

The collision occurred shortly after 4.15am on the L5140 at Laghtadawannagh, near Ballina.

Two occupants of the car, both adult men in their late teens, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other occupants, two males in their mid-teens and a woman in her late teens, were taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The coroner has been notified and post-mortem examinations will take place in due course.

The road remains closed to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Investigations are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson said.
