Von der Leyen did not specify what ages would be affected by a potential ban Shutterstock

Would you support an EU-wide social media ban for children?

The EU should consider a ‘delay’ in children’s social media access, Ursula von der Leyen has said.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION PRESIDENT Ursula von der Leyen has said the EU should consider limiting children’s access to social media.

An expert panel has been appointed to report on what steps should be taken to protect minors online.

“Depending on the results, we could come with a legal proposal this summer,” the EU chief said, adding that she believes a delay in access to social media should be considered.

Last year, Australia became the first country in the world to enforce a social media age restriction, while countries including the UK and New Zealand have proposed similar measures.

Separately, Ireland has also been considering a social media ban for under-16s. Tánaiste Simon Harris previously said that the government was “clearly hearing” that parents want action when it comes to children on social media.

With that, we want to know if you think a widespread social media age restriction would work.

So today we’re asking: Would you support an EU-wide social media ban for children?
