Irish man dies after falling from cliff in Ibiza

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said that it “stand by to provide consular assistance” following the fatal incident.

AN IRISH MAN in his 40s has died after falling from a cliff on the Spanish island of Ibiza, local authorities have confirmed.

The incident happened on Monday afternoon in the northern es Caló de s’Illa area of the island.

According to local authorities, emergency services were alerted shortly after 5.30pm when a woman who was with the man alerted police after spotting him below the cliff edge.

Civil Protection personnel and medical teams were first to arrive at the scene, before officers from the Civil Guard, firefighters and local police were also mobilised.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local newspaper Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera first reported the incident.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it was aware of the incident. A spokesperson said that the department “stands by to provide consular assistance”.

Ibiza is a popular holiday destination for Irish tourists, particularly during the summer, with direct flights operating from Ireland.
