Gardaí investigate as ATM taken in overnight raid on Cork bank

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, and it is similar to a previous failed taking of an ATM from a business in Mallow on 2 June.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a gang involved in the theft of an ATM at a Bank of Ireland branch in Cork.

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, and it is similar to a previous failed taking of an ATM from a business in Mallow on 2 June.

The gang involved damaged the front of the building and then left the scene with the ATM. They left behind one of the vehicles they used, which The Journal understands had been taken from nearby businesses.

This morning gardaí were examining CCTV from the bank and other businesses. The area where it happened is just off the main east Cork parkway dual carriageway leading to from the town’s of Carrigtoohill, Midleton and Cobh.

The bank is in a number of businesses in a retail park in a heavily industrial area approximately 10 minutes by road to the east of Cork city.

A garda spokeswoman confirmed the incident but did not call it a robbery, defining it instead as a burglary.

“Gardaí received a report of an incident of burglary that occurred in Little Island, Co. Cork on Wednesday 10 June 2026 at approximately 1.30am.

“An ATM has been reported as stolen. A technical examination of the scene has been conducted. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.
