Evacuation as homemade bomb found at Ballymun building site

The device was removed by army experts last night.

A HOMEMADE BOMB found at a building site in Ballymun last night led to the evacuation of a number of buildings.

Gardaí called the Army Bomb Disposal Team to the construction site in Poppintree after an improvised explosive device was found.

The team arrived at about 7.40 pm and a cordon and traffic restrictions were put in place as a number of buildings were evacuated.

The suspect device was removed from the scene to a military location for examination and the scene was declared safe at 8.30 pm.

Inspection of the device by army experts determined that it was a viable explosive.

The Defence Forces say that evidence will by passed on to the gardaí to assist them with their investigations.
