Police in Belfast investigating attempted bus hijacking

No one was injured in the incident as police arrived on the scene quickly and the crowd dispersed.

DETECTIVES IN NEWTOWNABBEY are appealing for information following the attempted hijacking of a bus in the Carnmoney Road area of Glengormley yesterday evening at approximately 8.10pm.

A crowd surrounded the bus and two masked me approached it and told the driver to park the vehicle across the road.

However, police were quickly on the scene, the crowd dispersed and the bus driver drove his vehicle off. There was slight damage caused to the vehicle.

It is not believed at this stage that anyone was injured during this incident.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact them at Newtownabbey on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
