TODAY, 16 JUNE, is Bloomsday.
It commemorates the day in 1904 of which James Joyce’s novel Ulysses is set.
If you’re out and about in Dublin today, don’t be surprised if you spot some Joyce enthusiasts (or people who just like an excuse to dress up) celebrating in their Bloomsday attire.
Ulysses is widely regarded as Joyce’s magnum opus and one of Ireland’s greatest literary achievements. That said, at more than 265,000 words, reading it is no small feat.
Maybe you’ve started it and never finished. Maybe it’s still on your to-be-read list. Or perhaps you’ve read it front to back and considered reading it again. You might have even lied and said you’ve completed it.
Whatever category you fall into, we won’t judge.
