Bus Éireann ends three Expressway routes including Waterford-Dublin

Bus Éireann said the three routes were lossmaking.

BUS ÉIREANN IS set to withdraw three Expressway services.

While Bus Éireann is state-owned, it noted in a statement today that Expressway is a commercial service which receives no State subvention.

“The measures announced are in response to the continuous significant losses being incurred on these services,” said Bus Éireann.

The three Expressway services to be withdrawn include:

These services will be withdrawn from Sunday, 24 May.

While Bus Éireann described the decision as “disappointing”, it added that the losses on the services were “clearly unsustainable for a commercial operation”.

It added: “The decision to consolidate our Expressway network and withdraw from a small number of routes is aimed at safeguarding the Expressway network.”

Bus Éireann added that “given the scale of our operations, there will be no impact on jobs given our current recruitment needs”.

It added that any customer who have a prebooked journey on any of the impacted services will be contacted and provided with a full refund.

Bus Éireann today notified the National Transport Authority of the move.
