A FARMER IN his 60s died on his land at Hacketstown on the Wicklow/Carlow border yesterday afternoon, gardaí have confirmed.
The man was working in a trench when the sides collapsed in on top of him at about 4pm.
The Health and Safety Authority and the gardaí are investigating his death.
The deceased has been named locally as Mick Lambert, owner of a hardware store in the area.
Tributes have been paid by Kiltegan GAA. A post on the club’s Facebook page read:
“RIP Mick Lambert. Every tradesman, farmer and person who has done DIY across most of Carlow and Wicklow will have come across Mick. He was a true gentleman and always enjoyed the haggle. He’ll be missed.”
