In pics: Controversial Republican parade passes peacefully in Tyrone

A minority of protesters shouted angrily and one demonstrator temporarily broke through a security barrier amid emotional scenes.

THE CONTROVERSIAL REPUBLICAN parade passed mostly peacefully in Castlederg, Co Tyrone his afternoon.

Loyalists protested at the march which, commemorates IRA men killed during the Troubles, in particular, two men who were killed in a bomb they were planting in Castlederg in 1973, one of the most bombed towns in Northern Ireland.

A minority of protesters shouted angrily and one demonstrator temporarily broke through a security barrier amid emotional scenes.

It follows a night of unrest on Friday during Loyalist rioting in Belfast, which resulted in 26 PSNI officers injured.

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers had called for the “deeply insensitive” parade to be called off on Friday. While earlier today she appealed for calm on both sides.
