CITIZENSHIP CEREMONIES THAT were due to happen this coming week have been cancelled due to the impact of the fuel protests.
The events, which were due on Tuesday and Wednesday in Killarney, were due to see 4,700 people conferred with Irish citizenship.
The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration has said that a new date will be arranged.
A spokesperson for the department told The Journal that, even with the ending of key blockades, the ceremonies will still be postponed.
“Due to ongoing pressure on fuel, travel and transport services nationwide, the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration has made the decision to postpone next week’s citizenship ceremonies,” the spokesperson said.
“A communication has issued to those due to attend, and the Department will confirm a new date shortly.”
Approximately 4700 people were due to be conferred with citizenship at a series of ceremonies in Killarney on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
While the blockades are ending, Fuels for Ireland has warned that it may take up to 10 days for filling stations to return to normality following widespread empty forecourts.
