GARDAÍ IN CRUMLIN have arrested a second man in connection with a drive-by shooting in Dublin last night.

The man in his late 20s was detained this afternoon and is being questioned at Sundrive Road Garda Station.

Earlier today, another man, who is also in his late 20s, was arrested and taken to Crumlin Garda Station, where he remains in custody under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Both can be held for questioning for up to 72 hours.

A 16-year-old boy was injured in the incident and was taken to St. James’s Hospital with gun shot wounds to the head and back. His condition is not thought to be life threatening. The victim, who was not known to Gardaí, had been standing outside a house on the Lismore Road with two others when a number of shots were fired from a passing vehicle, described as a black saloon.

It is understood that the teenager was not the intended target in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crumlin Garda Station 01-6666200, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter told RTÉ’s News at One that the shooting was “completely and totally unacceptable”, adding that it was another exampled of gangland members showing no respect for human life.

He also said that there had been a number of “unacceptable” incidents in the past two-and-a-half weeks but Gardaí are targeting those involved in organised crime.
