A CYCLIST HAS died after he was struck by a van on the N25 in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork this evening.
Gardaí attended the scene of what a spokesperson described as a “serious” road traffic collision this evening.
The pedal cyclist, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Cork Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The male driver of the van, also aged in his 60s, received treatment at the scene.
The N25 eastbound has been closed for technical examinations. Local diversions have been organised.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. Anyone with any information relating to the event is asked to contact Midleton Garda Station on 021 462 1550, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
