Twitterchat: Same-sex marriage and adoption rights in Ireland
Non-profit organisation, DailWatch.ie, is holding a discussion about it later today.
AN ONLINE ‘TWITTERCHAT’ is taking place later today that aims to discuss the issues of marriage and adoption rights for same-sex couples in Ireland.
The social media discussion is taking place as the constitutional convention discusses these same issues today and tomorrow, with a view to recommending whether or not the constitution should be amended to allow for same-sex civil marriage.
With over 1,000 submissions regarding this issue, it promises to be a lively debate.
Having their own discussion on the issue will be DailWatch.ie, the “politically neutral, non-profit initiative”. The Twitter-based discussion follows February’s inaugural Twitterchat, which focused on political representation in Ireland, highlights of which are available here.
Today’s chat is taking place between midday and 1pm and will pose the following questions to both politicians and non-politicians alike:
- Is Ireland a conservative country?
- Should the Convention recommend full adoption rights for same-sex couples?
- If Ireland had a referendum tomorrow on same-sex marriage, would it pass?
TDs from Labour (Derek Nolan), Fine Gael (Seán Kyne) and Fianna Fáil (Dara Calleary) have committed to give their time to the online conversation, during which questions can be asked and opinions offered by tweeting #AskATD to the @Dailwatch Twitter account.
