BASED ON THE best-selling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, The Old Man on Disney+ is about to become essential viewing for Irish audiences.
Now streaming exclusively on Disney+, the series follows Dan Chase, played to perfection by Jeff Bridges, who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid ever since. As is frequently the case with many former operatives, it’s not the peaceful retirement he had hoped for, as an assassin arrives on the scene to try and take him out.
In true thriller form, to ensure his future, Chase must now look to reconcile his past.
Any fans of Jeff Bridges knows the 72-year-old carries gravitas whatever project he’s involved in, and The Old Man is no different. This seven-part Disney+ series offers audiences an incredibly watchable journey, that breaks the mould of action thrillers by having, as the title says, an old man as the hero of the story.
Dipping between the past and present, we get an insight into Chase’s early career days, the younger character is played convincingly by Bill Heck, and we learn pretty quickly the real identity of our titular character may never be revealed.
With this series, it’s Bridges grit that shines through and keeps you coming back for more. While expecting a complacent retiree, as the series develops we’re treated to the complete opposite, a man who – against all odds – will do anything to survive.
Two episodes of The Old Man are now streaming exclusively on Disney+ with new episodes being released every Wednesday.
Sign up to Disney+ to stream The Old Man and so much more for just €8.99 per month.
