Armed gardaí arrest three men suspected of "dissident republican activity"

A gun and ammunition were seized.

ARMED GARDAÍ HAVE arrested three men on suspicion of being dissident republicans.

The men were arrested after gardaí attached to the Special Detective Unit assisted by members of the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched two cars, one believed to have been stolen, at Kyletaun, Rathkeale, County Limerick this morning shortly before 2am.

During the course of the search a firearm and ammunition, which are both subject to ballistic testing, were discovered and seized.

Three men, aged in their mid 20’s to late 30’s, were arrested and are currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick city under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
