Shots fired at house with five children inside

The shots were fired at the house in Drogheda, Co Louth, last night.

Updated 9.31pm

GARDAÍ IN LOUTH are appealing for witnesses following a shooting incident in Drogheda last night.

A number of shots were fired at a house in Knockbrack Close at 9.15pm. There were two women in the house at the time and five children, ranging in age from seven months to six-years-old.

Gardaí said a car believed to have been involved in the incident was found on fire a short distance away in at Platin, Co Meath. The car is described as a grey coloured Kia Ceed.

A man who lives in the house told RTÉ that he was the intended target of the attack. Speaking behind camera on the Nine O’Clock News, he said that his brother’s wife was “grazed” with a bullet as she bent down.

His eight-year-old child was in the sitting room when the rounds were fired. The other four children were in their bedroom.

According to the man, the attack was the result of a bare-knuckle fight rivalry.

The scene at the house is preserved for a full forenstic and technical examination and gardai are asking anyone who was in and around Knockbrack Close or adjoining roads between 9pm and 9.30pm to yesterday evening to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041-9874200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
