A report by Children’s Health Ireland has revealed that one or two e-scooter injuries are presented to hospitals every day.
THERE HAVE BEEN a number of calls from government figures for an outright ban on e-scooters.
Tánaiste Simon Harris told the Dáil on Thursday that he would keep an “open mind” on a ban of this kind. Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly have also said that they would support a ban.
Meanwhile, Labour TD Marie Sherlock has called for a temporary six-week ban to allow the “right regulatory systems” to be implemented to address what she described as a “gap in legislation”.
Sherlock added that while e-scooters are a “legitimate form of transport” for many adults who use them correctly, they can also be used with “impunity”.
