Further Ebola trial runs to be carried out to ensure health services are ready

One carried out earlier this week was deemed to be successful.

FURTHER INTER-AGENCY EXERCISES to test readiness for a case of Ebola in Ireland are being planned.

The Mater Hospital, gardaí, fire service, and the HSE carried out a simulated admission to the National Isolation Unit earlier this week.

In line with other EU health services, more trials will be run to build on yesterday’s exercise.

The National Public Health Emergency Team has said production of training materials and videos will begin shortly, to be issued to all those who would be involved in the handling of a case of Ebola.

This is part of a wide-range of training measures planned.

However, it was stressed that the likelihood of Ebola in Ireland was low, and that any cases would be handled by the National Isolation Unit at the Mater Hospital.
