74-year-old grandmother dies after being struck by her own car in Ennis

The freak incident occurred on Francis Street earlier this afternoon.

A 74-YEAR-OLD WOMAN has died in a freak accident in Clare.

The incident occurred while she was loading shopping into her car outside a supermarket on Francis Street in Ennis at 1.40pm this afternoon.

The car rolled backwards, hitting the woman.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body brought to Limerick Regional Hospital.

Her grandchildren are believed to have been close by when the incident occurred.

Diversions are in place as the road remains closed, pending a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
