Former Egyptian minister 'jailed' for corruption

A judicial source in Egypt has told reporters the country’s former tourism minister has been found guilty of squandering public funds.

EGYPT’S FORMER TOURISM MINISTER has been jailed for for corruption, a judicial source in the country has told reporters.

Ex-Tourism Minister Zohair Garranah was jailed for five years after being accused of squandering public funds and illegally handing out tourism licences, the BBC reports.

According to the AFP, Garranah was charged with wasting public funds worth €35.5 million and authorising the sale of state-owned land for well below market price.

Several former ministers are being investigated following the popular uprising in the country earlier this year. Last week, the former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly received a 12-year sentence for profiteering and money-laundering.
