Eighteen-year-olds have ten days to get a free interrail pass

Teenagers born between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2007 must complete a quiz and apply to the DicoverEU programme to get the free travel pass.

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLDS in Ireland can travel anywhere in the European Union by train for free for up to 30 days next year – but they have to apply before 13 November.

Teenagers born between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2007 must complete a quiz and apply to the DicoverEU programme to get the free travel pass.

The pass entitles people, who can apply alone or in groups of up to four people, to between one and 30 days travel from 1 March 2026.

The most environmentally friendly means of transport, like trains, will be the main mode of transportation on offer – but exceptions can be made for people living on islands or in remote areas.

Participants can also get a discount card to save money on accommodation, culture, sports, local transport, or other services.

As well as being 18, to be eligible you must be a citizen or resident of an EU member state, or countries associated to the Erasmus+ programme, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.

The scheme has been available since 2018 and aims to offer young people the opportunity to travel and explore Europe’s culture.
