Price Comparison: What can I buy in Galway for under €550,000?

From Loughrea to Tuam, here’s what’s on offer.

WITH PROPERTY ACROSS the country in such high demand, it can be really hard to get an idea of what your money will get you. 

That’s why each week, we pick a number of homes in a specific county, to make things a little easier to comprehend. 

This week, we’re looking at properties around Galway with an asking price of €550,000 or less.

Four-bed, detached, Loughrea – €440,000

This four-bed in Loughrea spans 231 m² makes the most of its countryside location as it takes advantage of the panoramic views on offer over Loughrea Lake. The house was built in 2002 and then extended more recently to create a bright and spacious home. The rooms comprise of a hall that links to the sitting room, open plan kitchen and dining space, a utility room and a sunroom. Two of the bedrooms and a bathroom complete the ground floor.

Two more bedrooms live on the first floor and the attic has been fully converted and is currently being used as an extra lounge or den. Gardens and lawn surround the house and a patio area to the back lets you enjoy the outdoor space as well as the great views.

Six-bed, detached, Tuam – €450,000

This 214 m² six-bed home is located in Tuam town that’s a minute drive from the motorway that will get you to Galway city in 30 minutes. The house is in great nick with a BER of C1 and many great features throughout, from the natural wood floors in the hall to the abundance of storage modern marble fireplace with a wood burning stove. The kitchen is anchored by a breakfast bar and painted a soothing sage in contrast with the wood countertops. The dining room is separate and spacious.

Three-bed, detached, Loughrea – €375,000

Marblehill Cottage, once owned by the de Burca’s, is part of Marbelhill Estate. The lodge itself is L-shaped and surrounded by a garden that’s home to a couple outbuildings. Inside, there are two living areas, both with wood burning stoves. The first nods to industrial design with its exposed copper piping that runs along the ceiling joists, the second is smaller and overlooks the garden. There is another lounge area as part of the open plan kitchen.

The three bedrooms are all upstairs. One is currently being used as an office. Four-bed, detached, Ballinasloe – €450,000

This modern four-bed spans 264 m² and is full of light. Built in 2008, the rooms on the ground floor comprise an open plan kitchen with dining room and living room that’s well zoned by a warm fireplace in the centre. From here, you can access a largel sunroom with views to the garden and the surrounding countryside. The ground floor has a large family room with a fireplace along with a utility room, guest toilet and a store room.

There are four big bedrooms upstairs, two of which have their own bathrooms. The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe while two others have built-in wardrobes. The attic provides plenty of storage space. The house stands on ¾ of an acre and is set well back from the road with lots of places to park and lawn for the kids to play. A local primary school is a ten minute walk away while the house is 20 kilometres from Ballinasloe, 15 from Portumna, and 24 from Loughrea.
