Gardaí launch investigation after feud-related violence breaks out in rural Limerick pub

The incident which happened near Rathkeale, Co Limerick saw more than 12 armed men burst into the bar.

GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED an investigation into a suspected feud incident in rural Limerick in which a gang of men attacked a pub in the hunt for a man from an opposing faction.

The incident which happened near Rathkeale, Co Limerick on Sunday saw more than 12 armed men burst into the bar. 

It is understood the attackers were armed with a variety of weapons including knives, slash hooks and possibly one firearm.

Some of the attackers were also carrying what appears to be chemicals which it is suspected they intended to burn the man with but it is understood one of the attackers may have suffered burns when he spilled a chemical on himself.

It is believed the intended target ran from the rear of the pub and through fields to get away from the attackers. 

The incident is linked to an ongoing feud in the area among a number of families.

Gardaí confirmed they are investigating the incident. 

“Gardaí in Newcastle West are investigating an incident of public order involving a number of males that occurred at a commercial premises in Newbridge, Co. Limerick on Sunday night 10th August 2025 at approximately 10pm.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident is asked to make contact with investigating Gardaí at Newcastle West.

“Gardaí can be contacted at the Newcastle West Garda Station on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing,” a spokeswoman said.
