Gardaí renew appeal for witnesses after two men killed in Donegal crash named locally

Four other people were hospitalised in the collision, which occurred on Saturday.

GARDAÍ HAVE RENEWED their appeal for witnesses following a fatal two-car collision in Co Donegal on Saturday in which two men were killed.

The victims have since been named locally as Caoilan Bushe (30), from Letterbarrow, and Leon Shovlin (20s), from Ardara.

The crash happened on the N15 at Birchhill shortly after 2pm on Saturday.

Caoilin Bushe and Leon Shovlin, who were travelling in the same car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other occupants of the same car, a man and a woman aged in their 20s, were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

A man and woman in their 40s who were travelling in the second vehicle were also brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Funeral details have since been confirmed for Caoilin Bushe. 

He will repose at his family home in Selacis, Letterbarrow on Tuesday from 12pm to 9pm. The house will remain private at all other times and on the day of the funeral.

Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday at 1pm in the Church of the Holy Redeemer, Drimarone, followed by burial in Cranny Road Cemetery, Frosses.

The funeral mass will also be streamed on the John McGowan Funeral Directors Facebook page.

Funeral details have not yet been confirmed for Leon Shovlin.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage from the area between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, to come forward.

Meanwhile, gardaí are also investigating a separate fatal crash in Co Donegal on Saturday night.

A man in his 20s died after a single-vehicle collision on the R238 at Ardmore, Muff, shortly before 10pm.

He was taken to Altnagelvin hospital in Derry but was later pronounced dead.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
