Alleged leader of organised crime group due in court after probe into encrypted 'Ghost' messaging

Gardaí said they were targeting the activities of an organised crime gang based in west Dublin.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED and charged a man in relation to alleged organised crime activities as part of an international probe that involved the infiltration of online communications.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested yesterday and has been charged with directing a criminal group. He will appear in court in Dublin later this morning.

Gardaí said they were targeting the activities of an organised crime gang based in west Dublin.

Yesterday’s operation is the latest in a series targeting the group, which have included the infiltration of an encrypted messaging system known as ‘Ghost’ by authorities in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.
