Gardaí launch investigation after overnight arson attempt on Donegal home

Only smoke damage was caused to the house during the incident and nobody was injured.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING an incident after a lit newspaper was stuffed through the letterbox of a house in Co Donegal in the early hours of this morning.

The terrifying incident happened at approximately 2.40am at the house on Church Street in the village of St Johnston.

Gardaí are treating the incident as an arson attempt.

Only smoke damage was caused to the house during the incident and nobody was injured.

However,gardaí are treating the matter seriously and have launched a full investigation.

They have issued an appeal to anybody who may have witnessed a “man or men” walking in the area between 2.15am and 3am this morning.

Gardaí are also appealing for dash-cam footage anyone may have caught from that area.
