Body found in Monaghan identified as missing man

Forty-year-old Gerard Tierney had been missing since last Thursday.

A BODY FOUND in Monaghan has been identified as that of a 40-year-old man who had been missing since last Thursday.

Gardaí say they are not treating as suspicious the discovery of the body of Gerard Tierney in Smithboro earlier today. One report suggests the body was found in a slurry pit.

Gerard Tierney had last been seen on the evening of 29 August at the family farm where he lived with his father.
