The incident was one of two fatal road crashes last night.
It occurred shortly before 2am this morning in Fairview, at the junction of the Malahide Road and the Clontarf Road.
Gardaí were following the car when it crashed into a lampost.
The woman, named as 43-year-old Sinéad Maguire from Dublin 3, was rushed to the Mater hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. A post mortem will be carried out later today.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital, while another 20-year-old passenger was taken to St James Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
“As a result the incident was referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission for investigation, in accordance with section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act (2005),” a spokesperson for GSOC said.
