Guinness Storehouse to launch new street art initiative on Culture Night

It will launch on 19 September on Culture Night, with an “immersive, artistic spectacle” at the Storehouse.

THE GUINNESS STOREHOUSE is to launch a new street art initiative on Culture Night later this month as it marks its 25th year.

Described as a community focused, “multi-phase street art initiative”, These Walls aims to spotlight the streets of Dublin 8. It will consist of artist collaborations and partnerships with local institutions, a spokesperson said, and will honour the area’s “creative legacy while embracing its evolving identity”.

It will launch on 19 September on Culture Night, with an “immersive, artistic spectacle” at the Storehouse. A limited number of free tickets are available here. A specially commissioned walk on the same day has already been full booked.

“On Culture Night, audiences are invited to step into this landmark exhibition set within the Storehouse’s striking industrial setting and immerse themselves in an evocative portrait of Dublin 8 that explores memory and place through light, sound, and form,” a spokesperson said.

The experience will include a specially commissioned soundscape and live contemporary dance. Local Korean restaurant Space Jaru will have a pop up at the event with a Guinness-inspired menu and guests can enjoy a complimentary pint of Guinness or Guinness 00.

Director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Annie Fletcher, said, “At IMMA, we believe in the power of art to connect people, place, and possibility. As a museum rooted in Dublin 8, it is both a privilege and a responsibility to contribute to the cultural life of this neighbourhood.”

She said the museum is delighted to collaborate with the Storehouse on These Walls, “which aligns so strongly with our vision to bring art beyond the museum walls and into the heart of civic life.”

These Walls phase one artworks along Thomas St, Crane St and Market St will be unveiled in time for Culture Night on the 19th of September.

They have been created by artists Deirdre Breen and Owen de Forge. Crane Street and Market Street will also be transformed with works by artists Alice Rekab, Venus Patel, Thaís Muniz, and Farouk Alao, who were commissioned in collaboration with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA).
