A 21-YEAR-OLD MAN has died following a stabbing on Clarendon Street, Dublin 2, in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident on Grafton Street where a male was found in a serious condition at around 3am.

The man was taken to St James’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The State Pathologist has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

The victim is understood to be originally from an African country and had been involved in an event at a nightclub in the area.

Sources said that he was stabbed in the midst of a large fight that had broken out between two groups of people on the street. 

The street where the stabbing took place is in one of Dublin’s busiest nightlife areas and there would have been large numbers of people on the streets nearby at the time.

This morning there were visible pools of blood on the ground. A number of garda forensic experts have been examining the area which remains sealed off. 

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Pearse Street garda station.

A family liaison officer has been assigned to support the family of the dead man.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Several streets near where the incident happened are cordoned off today.

A garda spokesperson said: “Anyone who was in the Grafton Street / Clarendon Street area in the early hours of Monday morning between 2am and 3.30am and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.”
