IT CAN BE easy to forget that the movie world isn’t all about Hollywood.
Take Bollywood, for example, which is India’s Hindi language film industry and one of the largest producers of films in the world. It’s worth billions of dollars.
It’s so massive that two of its stars – Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar – are near the top of the latest Forbes list of wealthiest male film stars. They are among 12 newcomers on the list, after Forbes broadened out the criteria for inclusion.
Topping the list though is Avengers and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr, making it his third year at the top of the pack.
He earned $80m over a year. Jackie Chan scooped second place by earning $50m, meaning there is a massive $30m gap between the two, testament to Downey Jr’s star power.
Though Chan is very well known in Hollywood, he’s absolutely huge in east Asia. So his place in the list might seem surprising to us in Europe, but not farther afield.
Vin Diesel, who’s ranked at number three, earned $47m in a year, while Bradley Cooper came fourth at $41.5m.
Forbes says that, altogether, the 34 highest-paid actors earned a combined $941m before taxes and fees between 1 June 2014 and 1 June this year.
The list of highest-paid actresses is expected soon – who do you think will make the cut?
