Man knocked down near Gort dies

The man in his 60s was hit by a car as he crossed the road at Ardrahan Village in Galway last night. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

A MAN WHO was struck by a car near Gort last night has died.

Gardaí confirmed that the man, who was in his 60s, passed away earlier today. Gardaí in Galway have appealed for witnesses to the hit and run accident on Friday evening which left the man in a critical condition.

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as he crossed the road at Ardrahan Village near Gort at around 7.30pm last night. The vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Gardaí in Gort wish to speak to the occupants of a white van, which is described as looking like a Volkswagen Caddy, and a black car, which were both seen in the area at the time. The man was taken to University College Hospital Galway.

Gardaí have asked anyone who saw the collision or who has any information which could help with the investigation to contact Gort Garda Station on 091 636400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
