Is the proposal to boycott holiday homeowners fair?

A county official has claimed that holiday homes in Co Mayo could be unoccupied for up to 11 months of the year.

MAYO COUNTY COUNCIL official Tom Gilligan has defended his proposal to boycott holiday home owners in the county as a response to the ongoing housing crisis.

His four-point plan proposes a community-led boycott that would involve avoiding contact with holiday homeowners and not using businesses or services owned by absentee landlords.

Sinn Féin councillor Gerry Murray said that he was “astonished” when he heard the report, noting that holiday homeowners are part of the community.
