PROTESTERS WILL BE camping out on Dublin’s Central Bank plaza for the third night tonight, as the Occupy Dame Street protest continues.
The protest camp appears to have grown, with journalist Harry Browne tweeting this afternoon that there were around 18 tents on the plaza as well as a marquee. Before the event began, organisers promised to use “tactics of non-violence and civil disobedience”, citing the Arab Spring as inspiration.
Today saw some demonstrators dress up as bank robbers to highlight the behaviour of perceived financial elites. Blogger Unkie Dave, who is taking part in the protests, writes that a vote at the camp today unanimously endorsed the protests’ four aims as set out in a statement last week. He also wrote:
I am there because I am tired of decisions being taken by those with political and economic authority on behalf of the richest 1% in this country (and the world). Politicians are elected by the people, and should represent The People, the 99%, and not the economic elite and certainly not the Corporations. The recent election changed nothing except who sits where in the Dail.
