'It wasn't Madeleine': McCanns dismiss reported sighting in India

Kate and Gerry McCann have studied photos of the child, who was accompanied by a French woman and a Belgian man.

THE PARENTS OF missing child Madeleine McCann have said a blonde girl spotted by a woman in India was not their daughter.

A British tourist called police in the town of Leh, northern India after becoming suspicious that a child accompanied by a French woman and a Belgian man could be Madeleine, who disappeared in May 2007 aged three from a holiday apartment in Praia de Luz, Portugal.

However, Gerry and Kate McCann have announced the girl is not their daughter. A spokesman for the couple said: “Kate and Gerry do not believe the child seen in India was Madeleine. They have seen photographic evidence and concluded that it was not her,” the Daily Mail reports.

Madeleine’s grandmother Susan Healy also confirmed the family have dismissed the sighting. But she told the Liverpool Daily Post: “As Kate said, the good thing about this is that there is still an awareness among the public. And while this may not have come to anything, we are thankful that people are still looking – hopefully, next time, the result will be different.”
