Jobs boost as Shannon Heritage signs contract with Malahide Castle

A new contract will see tourist operator Shannon Heritage moving outside the Shannon region for the first time, creating up to 200 jobs in the process.

A NEW CONTRACT signing has led to a jobs boost at Malahide Castle and Gardens.

Malahide Castle and Gardens Ltd and Shannon Heritage are now working together in an agreement which sees the latter expand its operations out of the Shannon region for the first time ever.

Shannon Heritage is the country’s largest operator of tourist attractions while Malahide Castle and Gardens Ltd is the company that looks after the demesne and was formed by Fingal County Council.

Under the new agreement, Shannon Heritage will look after the day-to-day operation of the redeveloped castle, including the museum, visitor centre and walled botanic gardens. The gardens will open to the public in September along with the refurbished castle.

The remainder of Malahide demesne – including the public recreational facilities – will remain under the control of Fingal County Council.

The visitor attraction is currently undergoing a €10.5m redevelopment. A new restaurant and retail outlet at the Malahide Castle and gardens will be operated by AVOCA and will create 80 jobs, while in addition to the 20 jobs announced today, the project is supporting another 100 jobs in the construction phase.

John Ruddle, Chief Executive of Shannon Heritage said:

We are currently recruiting staff for Malahide Castle and we would hope to recruit up to 20 staff on the operations side and in sales and marketing. Recruitment is already underway for certain positions and advertisements for further positions will appear shortly.

Next year will see the 50th anniversary of the first medieval banquet held at Bunratty Castle, which is run by Shannon Heritage.
