'It's unfortunate that Micheál Martin is always accused of being part of the problem'

He wants to lead Fianna Fáil, but what does John McGuinness really think of the current incumbent?

FIANNA FÁIL TD John McGuinness has insisted he has confidence in party leader Micheál Martin despite reiterating his desire to lead Fianna Fáil in the future.

In a wide-ranging interview with TheJournal.ie this week, the outspoken Carlow-Kilkenny TD said that Fianna Fáil needs to be more of a “centre-left party” and “set out a new direction” in a bid to lift its poll rating.

With his party colleague Dara Calleary describing Martin’s work as “phenomenal” last week, we asked McGuinness for his thoughts on Martin’s work and whether he would consider a leadership challenge:
