TWO MEN HAVE been charged in connection with an armed raid on a post office in Kerry earlier this week.

The two men were being held in connection with the raid, which took place in the town of Waterville at about 11am on Wednesday morning.

They are due to appear before a special sitting of Killarney District Court this evening.

Gardaí believe that three men entered the post office and made off in a car with a sum of money.

Gardaí responding to the incident intercepted an 03 D navy blue Mazda car.

Gardaí pursued the suspects and the car crashed in the Beaufort area of Killarney.

Shots were discharged by gardaí but no injuries were reported as a result. Two gardaí were admitted to hospital following the incident.
