Gardaí investigate arson attack at newlyweds' home during wedding reception

Two vans and the garage at the couple’s home were set on fire.

GARDAÍ IN LETTERKENNY are investigating an alleged arson attack on a newly married couple over the weekend – while they were at their own wedding reception.

Gardaí said that there was damage to two outhouses and vehicles at the property.  The couple who lived in the property had been married earlier that day and were at their wedding reception at the time.

Gardaí sealed off the area for a technical examination and are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Gerry McMonagle, a Letterkenny Town Concillor told TheJournal.ie that a lot of people are “shocked” by the incident as the area is “usually very quiet”.

“It’s a terrible thing to happen, especially with the day that was in it,” he said. “It’s supposed to be a memorable day and now they will remember it I’m sure but for the wrong reasons”.
